Health is a Journey, Not a Destination: Embrace Progress, Not Perfection
Let’s talk about why your health journey isn’t going to fail, and why mine hasn’t.
I’ve tried it before. Maybe it was a diet, a fitness plan, or some shiny new thing that promised to change my life. And for a while, it worked. But then life got busy, motivation dipped, and the plan fell apart. Sound familiar? It did for me, every year.
Here’s the thing, it is the approach, not truly understanding that it is everyday, every decision and being ok with being imperfect.
Health isn’t about perfection. It’s about progress. It’s not about punishing yourself with gruelling workouts or swearing off your favorite foods forever. It was finding balance—figuring out what I was willing to give up, and what really mattered. What small intentional steps I could take to help make big, lasting changes.
For me, I turned 40 a few years back, and it was a kick in the butt to ensure I get in a position to have sustainable fitness for the rest of my life. In our 40’s you can fix the mistakes of your 30’s. In your 20’s you are invincible, 30’s- overcome with work and family. Your 40’s are the golden decade to get it right to set up 50,60,70,80’s. It is never too late to start, but plant that tree today.
Embrace running, restraint at the buffet, and understanding that my previous versions of me, were not the best versions of me, that perfection is the enemy of progress.
A 10-minute workout is better than no workout. Understanding that was the big change. It is consistency and intensity; those are the guiding lights that I have lived by and those changes have the key to the success.
Every day, every decision. You can make the improvements, and if you choose to not, then you can make the better decision at the next decision point.
Simple right- give yourself permission to have fun, but also permission to kick your own ass to success.
Your Path to Progress
January is a fresh start - a time to embrace small, meaningful changes that lead to lasting progress. True transformation happens through daily habits, not drastic, unattainable goals. Whether it’s meal prepping, taking a 10-minute walk on your lunch break, journaling to reflect on your day, adding an extra glass of water or protein to your routine, stretching for 5 minutes in the morning, or swapping one processed snack for a healthier option, every small step is part of your journey. Let’s focus on progress over perfection and build sustainable habits together this year! Slow and steady, wins your race.
